The Best Little League Coaches Instill Healthy Life Lessons

Healthy living is important to me, not just as a cancer survivor and thriving professional, but as a hands-on parent hoping to instill valuable habits for life. So when my son turned four, he joined the ranks of hopeful baseball greats and played his first season of Tee-Ball. Our family has always appreciated the sport, both my husband and I were raised by fathers that whipped out the old fashion scoring book while listening to the games on the radio. While I’m glad we started him young, it wasn’t until this season that we felt the passion of America’s favorite pastime with our child. And boy did we see fireworks. Beyond the sport itself, this season of coach pitch baseball was filled with healthy life lessons. So to all the committed, nurturing, skilled and leadership driven Little League coaches like ours this year – I say thanks.

Recipe: Healthy Grain Salads

I’ve said it many times, I’ve always loved carbs. Now that I eat clean, I choose wisely. Gone are the days when I’d eat a life-size bucket of white pasta with creamy sauces. Rather than eliminate all carbs, I focus on the complex ones. My latest favorite is the ancient whole grain, farro. It’s easy to add a ton of veggies and use cold-pressed oils for hearty salads. I’ve also found that tossed with sweet fruit, a farro bowl is a satisfying breakfast.

Non-Toxic Beauty: What’s in My Bag Now

Late spring makes me happy. Seeing all the radiant flowers in bloom and bright colors of nature everywhere excites me for summer. It’s also a time that I revamp my beauty bag. I love buying new seasonal products. I’m outside more, so like skincare items with sun protection. Spring also reminds me to rid my everyday items and refresh with newer ones. I still use products that are largely organic, vegan and rate low in toxicity in the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep database. Here’s what’s in my bag for late spring.

As you can see, I’m one of those people who loves all the made-up holidays. It gives me a reason to cheer or if nothing else smile at the world. This week in the Healthy & Wellness News & Info Recap there are a few posts that really make me happy. This includes studies substituting water to reduce risk of diabetes, a post highlighting the process around organic farming and an inspirational story about a well-known sports reporter and the mother-daughter relationship during her cancer treatment.
