Health & Wellness News & Info Recap, Wk Ending 3/16
Clean Eating:

‘Kids Eat Right’ Label
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics announced this week that Kraft Singles will be the first product with the “Kids Eat Right” seal of approval. Many are questioning how this processed packaged food is the first item to receive the label.

21 Foods to Keep at Home if You’re Trying to Eat Clean
I love lists and this post from last week outlines 21 foods to keep in your kitchen once you start eating clean. It’s true, I use most of these … just substitute the nuts for seeds.

Active Living:

Arianna Huffington Media Tour – Thrive Soft Cover and 10th Anniversary Announcements
Arianna Huffington has been seen in the media a lot the past week, promoting the 10th Anniversary of The Huffington Post, the announcement of her new e-course with Oprah Winfrey, the debut of ‘The HuffPost Show’ later this month and the soft cover release of her latest book, Thrive. I read the book last summer and created an action item list from her recommendations.

Non-Toxic Living:

Safety of Herbal Supplements – Potential Coalition
There are many reasons why I went plant-based when I changed my lifestyle. The most important reason, though, is that I believe my body can break down and absorb key nutrients that promote wellness better from foods than any supplement. There’s been chatter for decades about how the FDA doesn’t regulate supplements. Now a few Attorney Generals have been talking and they are expected to form a coalition to investigate quality control issues in the herbal supplement industry.

Inspiration/Love:

What No One Tells You About Losing a Pet
The only pet I’ve ever had was a hermit crab in grade school, so I really don’t understand firsthand the love of an animal friend. I wish I did and hope I someday do. There’s something incredibly special when a child (or adult for that matter) can sit/cuddle peacefully with a furry friend. I’ve seen studies about the healing benefits of having pets, one of which is the ability of animals to help buffer stress. I wanted to include this bittersweet post as a tribute to all the many ways we can find love, support and comfort in life.
