I love to celebrate and create happy times around the holidays. So the Mother’s Day countdown has begun in our house. My son has started coloring cards and is already planning a trip to the store to buy my gift. What I love most about these holidays isn’t always the present itself, but the sentiment behind it. Sure, if I was sent a brand new diamond-studded Apple watch, the healthy gadget girl in me would jump for joy. However, it would be much more meaningful if the giver attached a note saying, “we know you love to power walk for hours; this watch will keep you on time and connected while also tracking your health data.” Thoughtful. Useful. Fun.
Knowing we all can’t buy each other Apple watches for various reasons, and because I love to create thoughtful gift ideas, here’s a list of useful, fun and healthy Mother’s Day gifts for the wellness enthusiast.
For the Healthy Gift Gadget Girl
I love to jump rope. It remind me of being in elementary school and playing with my friends on the playground. The great news is that jumping rope is an incredible workout that can be done anywhere. That is, if you have high ceilings. While I know I can jump rope outside, it often doesn’t happen. So when I found these speed training jump rope balls, I jumped to get them. For those who travel a lot, they are easy to pack and can be used in a hotel room. Or, for the busy mom that just wants a quick workout anywhere, this gift is an easy to use anywhere item.
Highlighted at last year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the Visijax jacket is a must-have for mountain and roadside bikers. Since I love to walk to the beach at night, I love that this product includes more than 20 high intensity LED lights so that cars can’t miss me on the side of the street. For those who like to bike to work or even just run, walk or exercise outside, check out this jacket providing extra safety elements.
For the Foodie Mama
For the crafty mom that loves to prepare fun foods with the family, an herbal garden kit is a fun and useful project. Planting kits for everyday herbs, foods and trees are listed. Planet Natural sells products for indoor and outdoor gardens as well as natural cleansers and supplies.
While cook books and DIY videos can help educate us to find new family food favorites, sometimes it takes an actual lesson by a pro to motivate us to make those changes. Local health food markets as well as raw food restaurants and juice bars often hold seminars on how to prepare healthy foods. These nights are not only informational but also can be a fun girls night out for moms. For the mom that wants to embrace wellness but isn’t sure where to start, a gift certificate to a local juice bar/restaurant that hosts events could be appealing. Whether it’s a lecture on wellness or a cooking class, check out local juice bars and Whole Foods Markets for upcoming healthy events.
For the Green Beauty Mommy
I’ve mentioned them before and I will shout from the mountain tops again, I love pretty products especially when they have clean ingredients. It’s a daunting task to find all new beauty items, though, even with great resources like the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep database. So gifting an all-natural beauty box subscription is a fun way for a mom to try out all new products monthly.
Green Beauty Books
I love hardcover, big, beautiful picture books. When it’s a book about a topic I love it becomes even more thoughtful and personal. Below are some that I love or hope to receive in the near future that cover green beauty.
